The battle for the smartphone market just got hotter.

No sooner has Apple launched the latest incarnation of its groundbreaking iPhone than Sony bounces back with an Xperia Z3 model which, if this new TV campaign is to be believed, takes pin-sharp pictures in the lowest of lowlight conditions.

A big shout should go out to director Peter Thwaites and the host of production personnel responsible for some of the stunning images in this series of films.

But the choice of London Grammar to soundtrack the spot is also to be commended.

Movie buffs will know that the original version of Nightcall, by French electropopster Kavinsky, was used for the opening credits to Drive, the 2011 Cannes Film Festival award-winner starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan.

This grand piano-driven revision, lifted at the end of last year as a late single from LG’s platinum status MOS album If You Wait, does more than underscore Hannah Reid’s value as a vocalist.

It also marks the trio’s second sync in a month to turn up on the adbreakanthems’ radar.

The last was with a French remix of Hey Now as featured in Dior’s most recent The Future Is Gold commercial. Will there be others? Just wait and see.
