They don’t call football a game of two halves for nothing.

Historically even BBC 1’s coverage of the beautiful game has been split down the middle with Match Of The Day’s Premier League highlights taking precedent in the Saturday schedules – forcing fans of clubs in The Championship and Leagues One and Two to stay up extra late to see their teams in action.

Following its acquisition by Channel 5, the new-look Football League Tonight show – which debuted on August 8 – has been promoted to the primetime nine o’clock slot.

Not only will it replay every goal scored each weekend, but, according to the Football League's CEO Shaun Harvey, it also hopes to attract “a wider, younger audience by being first in front of fans on a Saturday night."

Its rousing new theme tune Diesel Therapy could turn London-based indie rockers CHILDCARE into giant killers too!

The track was pitched to Channel 5 back in June by Simon Pursehouse at Sentric Music – the same independent publisher nominated at last year’s Music Week Sync Awards for Sky Sports’ live Premier League idents.

“The brief was basically all the passions associated with ‘football’,” says Pursehouse. “Anything with that ‘shoulder to shoulder on the terraces’ vibe that the Football League encapsulates was considered and I thought of Diesel Therapy immediately.”

Although CHILDCARE are still working on their debut album they are no strangers to the small screen. Previous titles released through record label Best Laid Plans have featured in episodes of Made In Chelsea, Hollyoaks and on the Sky Sports channels.
