MoneySupermarket may have sent its first man into space in 2013, but, thanks to social media, interest in the online insurance specialist’s latest EpicSquads commercial has gone ballistic!

Ad agency Mother produced the West Side Story-styled face-off between two opposing posses – led by top US dancers Kyle McIntire and Michael Van Schoick as competing MoneySupermarket heroes Colin the Builder and Dave The Strutter – after a passionate debate on Twitter and in The Sun about who was the nation’s favourite had attracted tweets from celebrities like Boy George and Peter Crouch.

“We knew the public would love it if we brought the two together,” Mother tells Adbreakanthems.

Soundtracking the spot is Christina Aguilera’s 2002 UK chart topper Dirrty featuring rapper Redman, as sourced by music supervisor Theodore.

“We considered contemporary music but it’s very hard to achieve a level of humour with something new versus an older ‘guilty pleasure’ track,” Mother continues.

“Middle aged blokes dancing around to a Christina Aguilera classic is immediately silly!”

Adding a further comic twist to the tale, which has already notched up over 500,000 YouTube views, MoneySupermarket unveiled a ‘director’s cut’ in which Colin’s ‘wife’ Donna shows the two squads some Epic dancing moves!
