Following the long-running Boots Ta Dah! Number 7 campaign, Jessie J has extended her relationship with the High Street chain for its biggest ad of the year.

But, unusually for a campaign of such prominence, the vocal recording was turned around in a matter of hours, and at the very last minute too!

According to Universal Globe’s Adam Gardiner, the window to deliver a final track for edit was just two days, ready for its debut in Downton Abbey on November 8.

He says: “We began working with Boots' creative agency Mother in late October. With the help of Platinum Rye they were on the way to choosing Kay Starr’s The Man With The Bag as their soundtrack.”

Universal’s suggestion that Jessie J should re-record the 1950 US Xmas hit with The Abbey Road Big Band met with immediate approval. With U2, Coldplay and Kate Bush arranger Rupert Christie at the controls, the band went straight into the studio and prepared a backing track.

“There was no time to get Jessie back to the UK to record so the stems were sent to LA to meet her in the vocal booth,” Gardiner continues. ”Ever the professional, she recorded the vocal overnight and we had it back before breakfast!”

The sumptuous Discover More spot, which depicts Boots as a fun-filled gift factory, was directed by Britney Spears and Taylor Swift promo maker Joseph Kahn.

Jessie J’s full length version of (Everybody’s Waitin’ For) The Man With The Bag is available to stream and purchase.
